Commendable Response from Southern Company Gas Around COVID-19

March 26, 2020

ONE Future member Southern Company Gas is making outstanding strides to address the concerns of their customers and communities amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Southern Company Gas Charitable Foundation along with its family of companies is investing $2.5 million to support COVID-19 relief efforts throughout the areas it serves in California, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

Specifically, they are working with organizations across these seven states, including Meals on Wheels, the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and United Way to help lessen the health, community and economic impacts of this pandemic.

Jim Kibler, President of Virginia Natural Gas, commented, “We’re committed to helping our communities and assessing the needs of those we serve to determine where we can help during this challenging time. These donations and our continued partnerships with these worthwhile relief organizations are essential in efforts to help our customers address their needs during the COVID-19 health crisis.”

Realizing that the coronavirus has dramatically affected some customer’s income, two weeks ago, Southern Company Gas voluntarily suspended service disconnections for residential and commercial customers for non-payment, and they’ve also launched a website for COVID-19 related efforts and concerns.

For employees, they have implemented telecommuting for much of their workforce, while business-critical employees are continuing to work in the field and customer care centers to provide safe, reliable fuel to customers.

ONE Future commends the efforts of Southern Company Gas and is proud to have such a proactive, empathetic company as a member.

Stay healthy and well,

Richard Hyde, Executive Director
