ONE Future’s Goals for 2020
ONE Future’s Goals for 2020
January 7, 2020
It’s the start of another new year, and ONE Future, like all of you, has set goals for 2020. As members of, or perhaps those considering joining the ONE Future coalition, I thought you’d be interested in what the organization is focusing on for the next 12 months.
There are of course many smaller “sub” goals, but these are the pillars:
1) Membership Growth –with two years-worth of positive emission intensities reporting under our belt, we are motivated to continue to recruit new members, growing our coalition is not only important to us, it is important that the industry as a whole be working to reduce emissions and demonstrate those results to our key stakeholders, investors, policy makers and environmental groups. Our efforts are tried and proven to be true – it’s time to get on the band wagon!
2) Communicate the benefits of natural gas as a sustainable fuel – ONE Future members know this already, and we recognize that excessive methane emissions can potentially erode the benefits of natural gas relative to other fossil fuels – and therefore prudent development and operations are vital to ensuring the industry can support the energy needs of the nation and the world in a sustainable manner. We need to make certain that people understand that our members have reduced emissions while increasing production, that is a powerful message that we intend to communicate in 2020.
3) ONE Future is working to ensure that natural gas achieves long-term sustainability and competitiveness, even in a low carbon economy, preserving the industry’s leadership in energy production and reduction of emissions.
ONE Future’s goal is to ensure the future of natural gas as a clean energy source; by reducing member company methane emissions to 1% (or less) by 2025, and by educating our stakeholders on our initiatives and the importance of natural gas.
If you would like more information on membership, or just have questions, please feel free to drop me an email, I’d love to hear from you.
Happy New Year,
Richard Hyde, Executive Director
