About ONE Future

ONE Future is a coalition of about 50 natural gas companies working collaboratively to reduce methane emissions across the value chain through innovative technologies and shared best practices. We are committed to continuous improvement as we work to ensure the future of natural gas as a long-term sustainable fuel source.

Our industry-leading coalition spans five segments of the value chain: oil and natural gas production, natural gas gathering and boosting, natural gas processing, natural gas transmission and storage, and natural gas distribution.

Our Mission

ONE Future’s mission is to ensure the future of natural gas as a long-term sustainable fuel source by reducing member companies’ combined ratio of methane emissions to natural gas produced to 1% or less.

Our Approach

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach for reducing emissions. Each ONE Future member has the flexibility to deploy their capital where it will be maximally effective in reducing emissions. Members agree to measure their emissions and track their progress over time according to uniform, EPA-approved reporting protocols using science-based technology and methods.

Governance

ONE Future is a 501(c)(6) organization governed by a steering committee, comprised of members from each company who meet quarterly to set the direction for the organization and ensure goals are being achieved. ONE Future also has a technical committee, comprised of member company representatives that focus on air issues.

ONE Future is a member-driven coalition led by an Executive Director but has no staff. ONE Future employs third-party consultants to assist with the technical committee and public relations. ONE Future requires new members to agree that they will work to reduce their methane emissions and collaborate with other ONE Future members to collectively help the value chain drive down methane emissions.

Jim Kibler

Jim Kibler serves as the Executive Director of ONE Future. He is responsible for day-to-day operations, expanding membership, meeting with legislators and industry regulators, and promoting the organization at industry events. Jim was one of the original founding directors of ONE Future.

Jim held a variety of roles at Southern Company Gas and its predecessor, AGL Resources, most recently as president of Virginia Natural Gas. In this role, he was responsible for the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to approximately 300,000 customers in southeastern Virginia. Prior to his role as VNG president, he served as senior vice president of external affairs and public policy for AGL Resources, directing the company’s overall public policy initiatives. In this role he helped to co-found ONE Future.

Before joining AGL Resources in January 2005, Kibler was an energy and telecommunications attorney in private legal practice, where he counseled clients in acquiring, permitting and operating energy infrastructure, as well as serving as pro-bono counsel for eNGOs. Additionally, he served as special counsel to the Commonwealth of Virginia on various matters.

Kibler is past chair of the American Gas Association’s legislative committee and task force on energy and environment, as well as the Southern States Energy Board’s associate members program. He is a past member of the board of trustees of The Georgia Conservancy and advisory council of the Trust for Public Lands in Georgia.
